Puffin Boat Trip to Seal Island Cruise to Seal Island, a little-visited island 18 miles out to sea, with master birder Bob Duchesne to view the breeding ground of arctic tern, Atlantic puffin and many other pelagic birds including razorbill, common murre, great cormorant, surf scoter, northern gannet and guillemot. Box lunches, snacks and beverages available at Old Quarry. Please order lunches at least a day ahead. What to bring on the Puffin Boat Trip to Seal Island. 2012 Puffin Boat Trip to Seal Island Schedule: Sunday, May 20 The vessel Nigh Duck departs from Old Quarry Dock at 9:00 am and returns at 2:00 pm for the Puffin Boat Trip to Seal Island. Please arrive at Old Quarry at 8:30 am to park and use the facilities. There is a potty on the boat. Please car pool when possible. Deer Isle-Stonington is renown for its varied and abundant seabird life as well as its archipelago of over 60 beautiful islands. Kayaking among them gives a great chance to see many different species including scoter, loon, eider, guillemot, horned grebe, merganser, pintail, golden eye, tern, gull, bufflehead, cormorant and sandpipers depending on the time of year. For nature lovers it is also possible to see raptors including many eagles and ospreys in this area. You may also see harbor seals and possibly even harbor porpoises.
